FAITH FORMATION

Baptism
The Lutheran Church has two sacraments, and baptism is one of them. Sacraments are a gift from God and a means of experiencing God’s grace. As such, there is no charge for a baptism at House of Prayer. We only ask families to attend a few conversations with the pastor beforehand. Baptisms are celebrated during Sunday morning worship services in the presence of the community.

First Communion
First Communion Classes will be offered in the Fall of each year. Please call the office or speak with the pastor for more information. Please note that children must receive their baptism before they can participate in their First Communion classes.

Confirmation
Youth in grades 5 thru 8 are invited to participate in confirmation classes. These are free classes, intended to help participants explore their faith, learn about the Bible, and understand their Lutheran identity. They begin in September and continue until May of each year. Please contact the office or the pastor for more information.

Children in Worship

Families and children are warmly welcome to attend Sunday services!

There are Activity Bags available in the Narthex that children may borrow to use in the pews during worship.

There is also a dedicated children’s area in the Narthex. Here you will find a small table and chairs and quiet toys and activities located in the adjacent cupboards. For safety, please have one adult present with young children, as the service can be viewed and heard from the Narthex.

HOP Kids’ Fellowship Sundays

During worship on Kids’ Fellowship Sundays children age 3 years through 6th grade  will be invited to participate in a Sunday School activity during the sermon time of the service. Caring teachers will provide stories and activities to help children experience the day’s Gospel lesson in engaging ways appropriate to their understanding.

Volunteers

Providing thoughtful Christian education for our young children is also a blessing to the youth, parents, grandparents and other adults  involved in the program. One of the greatest gifts my children received from their participation in church was the circle of caring adults in their lives.

If you are interested in being a part of this growing team, please let us know! Feel free to talk with Cindy Jorstad or Kitty Wiebe about your ideas and availability. Help is needed for our Sunday offerings, family events and upcoming Vacation Bible School program. Your unique gifts can help shape our program and offerings.
